Montpelier was very nice to walk around in the hot sunshine. Good coffee and light lunch and a browse in some shops. Montpelier being the capital is surprisingly v small, we had a wander around the state house dipping in occasionally to the tour spiel.
Ended up on the back roads to Northfield and happened on a small 12 acre winery. They had picked fruit that day and were pressing it out the back in the open, so we had a chat with them whilst they operated the small hydraulic press. Then inside for a quick wine taste. We were on gravel roads for a while.
Arriving in Woodstock it is v small and pretty and claims to be the prettiest in Vermont. The. Hotel is impressive and the log fire in the lobby uses 5' logs.

Glad you liked Montpelier. And only a log-fettishist would know (or care) about the diameter.
