Joined 'The Kanc' road, one of the most scenic routes in the USA. V pretty and in some areas moving from full colour to leaf fall. On to The Flume, a walk to and around a v narrow granite gorge. Entry a bit pricey at $16 ea but a v good 2mi walk all the same and the gorge is spectacular.
The temperature had plummeted from t shirt weather yesterday to about 8C so coats and gloves came out. Saw red squirrel and blue jays, no bears or moose though.
Up through Franconia notch and off to Stowe. Crossed into Vermont (must be lovely at this time of year, all that snow). Lots of huge barns and farm fields.
Mandie wished for a log fire for when we got to the hotel and guess what? There was one in recepion and ready to welcome us, and ... one in the room so we stacked logs ready for when we got back from dinner, and one was burning in the middle of the dining room in the restaurant (which has its own micro brewery in the bar!) - 'Idletyme'. We like Vermont. Lit the fire when we got back.
